W.A. "Bill" Eakin.   Settled at Spanish Ft in the 1880s operating a general merchandise, then at Grady ca. 1892. Settled at Petersburg ca. 1902 operated general merchandise.
Ittie McClain Eakin, b 1860 in MO, married Bill Eakin 1877 in Cooke Co., TX.
Sallie Eakin and William Langford wedding photo 1901.  Sallie was the eldest daughter of Bill and Ittie Eakin. Arrived Petersburg ca. 1901.  
Larry and Ella Lee ca. 1901., Ella is barely noticeable in photo. Ella died 1901 leaving Larry and a son George. Larry Lee was an active citizen in the community; notary public and post master.

Moses & Polly Meekins' sons; L-R Walt, Vernon, Lee, Bill, John Otha playing banjo ca 1902.  Most all of the Meekins family removed to Montague Co., TX in the early 1900s except Kitty and Mattie who lived their entire lives in the community.
Green Cook b. 1852 AL arrived pre Petersburg ca. 1875.  Moved to Courtney ca. 1896 and to Wetumka, OK ca. 1909. Father of area residents; Emma Carnahan, Mollie Beavers, Pennie McCarty, and Beedie Davis. Photo 1901.
Mollie Cook Raines b. 1871 TX arrived at Petersburg age 4 in 1875. Photo taken 1901 with daughter Ethel Raines b. 1896 Courtney. Mollie m Charley Beavers mother of Curtis and Dora. Mollie died at Courtney 1955 buried Bourland Cemetery.

George and Mattie Williams arrived at Courtney about 1907. They were married in Cooke Co., TX 1890 and lived for time at Rubottom and Marietta before arriving at Courtney.  rbcummings photo.
Carnahans; Jim, Toni, Bud, Fanny, and Martin 1907. Jim Carnahan was born 1872 Lynnville, IN came with his parents to the Courtney area ca. 1877. Long time resident of Courtney died at age 96, buried at Rubottom..

Mollie Elms in later years.  Mollie operated a two story hotel at old Belleville roughly between 1910 and 1913 It is believed she was replaced by Helms. Mollie left Courtney about 1913.. photo taken decades later.
John Hogue, b 1878 Bount Co., TN married Laura Carnahan 1898 Cornish. Settled Courtney ca. 1883 with his parents Wm Monroe Hogue.. Photo 1901.

Albert Holland b. 1882 LA, arrived with his father in 1904. Married 1 Feb 1906 at Petersburg to Sadie Hill of Montague Co. Father of Ellis and Alberta.  Albert died 1909 from fever at home just west of Bourland Cem.

Dr. Bethke of Orr and Millyea Black wedding photo at Courtney Dec 20, 1909. Millyea met Dr. Bethke while attending high school at Orr.  Couple moved to Iowa in the mid teens where Millyea died in 1919.

Hester Black b 1887 Scott Co., AR, married Willie Howard 1905. Couple arrived south Petersburg abt 1909. Eventually moved south of Wilson. Photo ca. 1904. Gr-grandmother of Courtney resident D. Weatherly.
Hiram May b. 1836 AL came to TX in 1850s raising a large family. By 1900 the family lived in Montague Co., TX arriving Courtney after 1904. Died 1920 Tarrant Co., TX.  A Dezzie Panzitta photo.  
Louisa Camp b. 1861 AR m. 1875 Hiram May. Arriving Courtney area after 1904, most of the May family left the area by 1917 residing at Ringling, Ryan, and Waurika.  Louisa died 1949 Marlow, OK.

Matilda Sorrells was b. 1866 in MO 1/8 Choctaw. She married Wm Pen Rubottom. Family resided on east side of Mud Creek.  Matilda and her children were allotted land on both east and west side of Mud Creek. A bratly05 photo.

The W.A. "Bill" and Ittie Eakin home completed 1907.  Located east of Eakins store.  It is a beautiful home with gabled roofs and gingerbread trim.  Pictured are Buel and Bill Eakins, children; Audrey and Harold Langford, Larry and Nell Eakins.
